It is no secret that the President of the United States is coming to visit the local area. Our base has the privilege of hosting the arrival and departure. I was especially proud of all the new American Flags posted along the main base avenues. It kind of looks like the Fourth of July.
While I expect tight security precautions, especially after 9/11, it wasn't until base officials started knocking on doors to post a lengthy "notice" that I began to wonder, "This is a secure military installation right?" "Duh, why else would we comply with such orders?"
I won't post the entire message but here is what bugs me:
"There will be no opportunity for the general base populace to view the Presidential arrival or departure...don't attempt to view these events in or around the aircraft parking ramps or taxiways since security personnel will be required to move you away."
"Persons residing in quarters or working in buildings along [the route] will be required to remain indoors during these periods. It is fine to watch from closed windows but no one will be permitted on porches, yards, balconies, etc. Do not open windows."
{My kids can't play outside?}
"Again, there is no reason to attempt to find a likely spot to catch a glimpse of the motorcade since no one will be permitted to remain in place to do so."
{Unless you are protesting outside the gate}
Ordinarily, this is a great honor and a great opportunity for base residents, especially the children. What a fantastic way to introduce them to civics.
Oh well. No one reads blogs right?
