Washington Monthly's Philip Carter and Paul Glastris have raised The Case for the Draft. (HT: RealClearPolitics)
"In short, America's all-volunteer military simply cannot deploy and sustain enough troops to succeed in places like Iraq while still deterring threats elsewhere in the world. Simply adding more soldiers to the active duty force, as some in Washington are now suggesting, may sound like a good solution. But it's not, for sound operational and pragmatic reasons."
I have heard many "watercooler" conversations about this topic...mostly about what we would be "sacrificing in terms of the volunteer force"...yet, the increasing scale of "deployment after deployment will have an effect (good and bad) on the total force". These are not my words...just some of the conversations.
Anyway, what do you think?
A military draft is morally wrong---and thankfully, I don't believe it will happen.
