Foreign Policy

For those of you who have time...

Here is an interesting article from Foreign Affairs.  It involves the Economic IOP and America's relative strength given the government's accumulation of foreign debt.  Here is a summary:

"The United States' current account deficit and foreign debt are not dire threats to its global position, as would-be Cassandras warn. U.S. power is firmly grounded on economic superiority and financial stability that will not end soon."

As students of foreign policy and national security...what are the biggest threats to U.S. hegemony?  As military members, the reasons for asking should be obvious.

Economics

This article at TCS is interesting.  Reminds me of a conversation I had with Rob in my research seminar yesterday...

The conversation went something like this...

Americans have the blessings of liberty and our country has flourished under our free enterprise system.  Yet, we do not educate our own children on our economic model.  Instead, we teach them to go to school, get good grades, so they can get a great job, and, if they can stay employed long enough, eventually retire.  Sadly, most never partake in the ownership society.

Here is food for thought:  Why is it that 'A' students teach the 'B' students who end up working for the 'C' students?

If this strikes you as funny you should check out the backgrounds (and academic pedigree) of our wealthiest citizens (who own the capital and create the jobs).  Hmmm...
