Reality vs. the MSM
Things have been extremely busy the last couple of months (see previous post). I guess one of the things that motivated me to re-engage in blogging is exactly what drove me to start this blog in the first place--namely MSM lies and distortions.
Although I am happy to see nearly everyone is extremely pleased with the work of our troops in response to Hurricane Katrina's aftermath...I cannot ignore the exaggerations and distortions currently churning in our print and broadcast media.
Democracy Project (a long time friend of AFV) posted a great summary by Bruce Kesler on the role the MSM should play as well as their failure to report the truth. I like the way Mr. Kesler finishes his post:
"...As with 9/11, part of the analysis should include what and how much the major media really focused upon warnings and practical solutions in the years, months and days leading up to Hurricane Katrina and, moreso than in the case of 9/11, the extent to which the response to the unfolding tragedy was aided or not, or even misled, by the reporting that occurred. The role of the reporting plays a much more central role than in the case of 9/11 in the communications accomplishments and failures surrounding Hurricane Katrina and its sad aftermath."
Here is another gem for Public Affairs officials to consider (emphasis added below):
"As news stories broadcast unchecked horror stories of barbaric behavior by some, and featured clips or anecdotes of the most blatant, they fed into excessive fears and racist stereotypes. As more complete facts emerged in blogs and were picked up in some newspapers, a more complete picture emerged."
Captain Ed offers a glimpse of these "complete facts" in his latest post titled, "New Orleans and Louisiana Blocking Aid to Refugees In City."
I thought this was interesting:
"It's also worth noting that the Red Cross gets more access to the detainees at Guantanamo Bay than the people still stuck inside New Orleans. "
Also, the comments below Captain Ed's post are amusing.
In case you haven't noticed...THIS IS AN INFORMATION WAR! If you need proof...see Michelle Malkin's latest post on the close coordination between the MSM and far-left groups like Move-on.org...the NYT already set aside space on its front page.
