Military Recruiting Roundup

There were several posts this week on the topic of military recruiting.  It seems several coordinated efforts against military recruiters are taking place on campuses across the United States (see previous post).

Michelle Malkin had this story yesterday regarding two hundred "pacifists" at UC Santa Cruz and this story the day before regarding one Cornell student's efforts to thwart these activists on his campus.

Frankly these activists are shameful.

However, consider this comment from Instapundit reader Bart Hall (HT: Mudville Gazette) (emphasis added):

"The rarely-mentioned dirty secret of it all is that the military are increasingly disinclined to recruit in such places to begin with. They did not push to reinstitute ROTC at places like Harvard and Middlebury because "frankly, we've found that students from such institutions tend to perform poorly as officers," to quote an officer (O-4) in a position to know."

"Fewer and fewer students attending places like UCSC are of the sort who can handle the military. These institutions do not, however, yet seem recognize their growing irrelevence and its connection to a woefully distorted and unbalanced political environment."

Greyhawk has more to add in his post..."DITTO" from Air Force Voices (and I am a graduated squadron commander).  Go read the rest of Greyhawk's post.

I also agree with the Greyhawk's commenters:  Most graduates suffer from a lack of motivation and seem to focus on "ME, ME, ME."  Leadership is more than a resume.

Finally, Mudville Gazette links to a previous post titled "Shallow Pool" by Greyhawk that made me laugh.  Though I have seen our troops excel when given the proper training, motivation, and most of all encouragement from Senior NCOs and officers.  Society benefits in the long run.  Still, the fast-food theme is funny considering those who take the activists message to heart.
